Sergio Ramos Receives 2-Match Champions League Ban

Feb 28, 2019 7:17 PM

Sergio Ramos received a 2-match Champions League ban for admitting he intentionally received a yellow card against Ajax.

Ramos will miss the second-leg match against Ajax, and the first-leg of Real Madrid's quarterfinals match if they move on.

"It was a dangerous counter-attack in the 88th minute in an open game in the elimination stage of the competition which is why I said that I'd be lying if I said I didn't know that I could be punished. I knew that I had no choice and that's what I meant when I said that in football you must make complicated decisions. If I wanted to force the suspension then I'd have done it in the group stage," explained Ramos.

Atleti President: Ronaldo Has Won 3, Not 5, Champions Leagues

Feb 21, 2019 12:01 PM

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo responded to Ronaldo's taunts that he's won 5 Champions League trophies while his side have won 0.

“I have five Champions Leagues, and these guys (Atlético) zero,” said Ronaldo after walking through the media zone following Atleti's 2-0 won over Juventus.

Cerezo disagreed.

“For me, Cristiano doesn’t have five Champions Leagues. He has three and for one very simple reason: both against Atlético Madrid, he didn’t win. Who won them? That, we’ll talk about in the next interview.”

Jurgen Klopp: Final Ball Let Liverpool Down Versus Bayern

Feb 20, 2019 1:29 PM

Jurgen Klopp lamented that the final ball was missing in Liverpool's 0-0 draw against Bayern Munich in the first leg of their knockout tie.

“Our biggest problem was a very average last pass in about 10 or 12 situations that looked promising. We made life difficult for ourselves with those final passes, promising moves just fizzled out. We can play better and we should play better but even if it is not a dream result it is still a good one. Bayern are a very good team and though our performance was not perfect we still have a result we can work with. Nil-nil is the best home draw you can get, after all," said Klopp.

Bayern will have Leon Goretzka and Arjen Robben back for the return leg at the Allianz Arena.

Giorgio Chiellini: Sergio Ramos Is Best Defender In World

Feb 19, 2019 12:50 PM

When asked if he thought he was the best defender in the game, Giorgio Chiellini pointed to Sergio Ramos.

"No, I think it's Sergio Ramos," said Chiellini.

Chiellini then claimed that Atletico Madrid were more Italian than Spanish.

“I think Atletico Madrid are more Italian than Spanish. In terms of mentality and approach to games, they’re closer to our football. Simeone is ready to line up four midfielders to stop Juventus: Rodrigo, Thomas, Saul and Koke."

Alessio Tacchinardi: Atletico Madrid Are Worst Opponent For Juve

Feb 18, 2019 8:04 PM

Alessio Tacchinardi said that Atletico Madrid's style was the worst matchup for Juventus.

"If Juventus are not at 100 percent they could lose; at 70 percent, they won't beat Atletico. I have played against Simeone many times and Atletico play like he did when he was a player, with desire and personality," said Tacchinardi.

Tacchinardi admitted that he was surprised Zinedine Zidane went into coaching following his career.

"But of all my former teammates, the only one who I didn't think would become a coach was [Zinedine] Zidane. It is amazing what he did with Madrid; he is a good and special person. I didn't think Zidane would want to stay in football after he stopped playing because he wasn't like [Antonio] Conte or [Paulo] Sousa, he wasn't a coach on the field because he had such a calm personality."

Sergio Ramos Admits He Received Yellow Card On Purpose

Feb 13, 2019 9:12 PM

Sergio Ramos admitted that he got his 89th-minute yellow card on purpose to sit out Real Madrid's second leg against Ajax.

"Looking at the result, I'd be lying if I said I didn't force [the booking]. It is not to underestimate the opponent nor to think that the series is over, but in football you have to make tough decisions," said Ramos.

Ramos was fined in 2010 for purposely getting a yellow card in the group stages of the Champions League.

Angel Di Maria: I Only Had Problems With Louis Van Gaal

Feb 13, 2019 7:57 PM

Angel Di Maria stated he only had an issue with Louis van Gaal during his time with Manchester United.

"It was difficult from the opening minute but I knew this was going to happen. But I've said it in the past and I reiterate it, I never spoke badly of the people here and of this club. These are things that happen and people took it badly. I only had problems with the coach [Louis van Gaal] here," said Di Maria.

Di Maria, who was roundly booed throughout the match and was the target of a Heineken bottle, yelled "f--- off" at United supporters following PSG's first goal.

Santiago Solari: Real Madrid Suffered Against Ajax Before Goal

Feb 13, 2019 7:59 PM

Santiago Solar said that Ajax were a difficult side to breakdown despite their 2-1 win.

"Without a doubt [it was a game in which Los Blancos suffered]. We knew how to play the game. We worked and suffered and scored when we created chances. We did everything and that shows the strength of this group," said Solari.

Solari added that he was impressed with Marco Asensio.

"He has done everything he had to do, not only for the goal but for how he managed the game, for how he defended and his effectiveness in reaching the opposition goal."
